Dr Bridget Atkins trained in Medicine (Cambridge & Royal London Hospital) and then specialised in Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, working in London, Oxford and Sydney. She was appointed to her current position as consultant in Infectious diseases and Microbiology (ID/micro) in Oxford University Hospitals in 2000. She is also ID/Micro Training Programme Director (Oxford Deanery), Infectious Disease Physician to the Bone Infection Unit (Oxford) and Senior lecturer (Hon), Oxford University. Specialist interests: post-operative and orthopaedic infection. She is has a busy clinical post but also has been involved with leading a draft service specification for commissioning of complex bone and joint infection units and is consulted on HPA standard operating procedures for orthopaedic samples sent to microbiology.
