There is an active clinical research group. We have recently described outcomes after debridement and retention of 2-stage revision, the outcomes after stopping long-term antibiotics, described the microbiology of prosthetic joint infection and chronic osteomyelitis, worked on the optimisation of microbiological diagnostics and shown oral antibiotics are not inferior to intravenous antibiotics (the OVIVA trial).
Current projects include leading a multi-centre randomised pilot study for a controlled trial of patient warming technologies to prevent surgical site infections (the RIIio trial) and a multi-centre randomised controlled trial of short and long antibiotic regimes (the SOLARIO trial).
